    All or nothing....

I am trying to finally lose the baby weight that I put on while carrying Nathan and so far so good. It is coming off slow and steady which is I believe the way to go. The past two weekends however have been a little harder. We have been out and about with date night for our anniversary and this weekend went to visit some friends to catch up. With both go the temptations of sweets, chocolate and larger portion sizes. If I am to make my losing weight and maintaining it a life long thing, which it needs to be - a lifestyle change, then I need to conquor these temptations once and for all.

This is where I find myself in the title of this blog. I am definately an "all or nothing" kind of person. When it comes to eating I cannot just have a little..... well I suppose I could but I choose not to. I have the taste for it and I have to finish the chocolate bar, the ice cream or whatever it may be. This past weekend has been proof of that. Then I get annoyed at myself as what is the point in working out and trying to eat right if I am going to "blow" it by not being able to control my eating myself. I think that it is easier for me to be a "nothing" person and have a treat once per week to keep a handle on my cravings.

Today has been one of those days. Things were not too good today for one reason or another, which usually begins the self sabotage cycle of eating as I am annoyed etc. This was not the case today, I ate as I had the "taste" for the munchies that I was snacking on. Needless to say I am disappointed in myself, and am looking forward to going to gym to take my frustrations out on the treadmill and burn off some of the crap I have munched my way through.

Today is another day - I begin it all again tomorrow, each day is a choice and I will have myself in check with regard to what goes into my body and out of my mouth - verbally!

  • Nate the Great... and other stuff

Nathan recently celebrated his 1st birthday. I took him Tuesday for his 1 year appointment - he is 32 inches tall and 25 lbs 13 oz. I think I am going to be the mother of two very tall and stocky young men. In comparison to Owen at the same age, he is 1 inch taller and 2 lbs heavier and Owen is tall for his age now, already in 4T clothing. I am totally done for when they reach the teenage years. Between them and Jon, I don't stand a chance. Interesting though to think what they will physically look like at that time and what their characters will be. I only hope by that time that I have been a good and positive influence on them, that they treat people with kindness, are social with a strong core of very good friends. Friends that treat them right, with mutual respect; that have a give and take relationship and are dependable. I hope that all of the above will be said by their friends about them. All of these are a basic qualities in a true friend. Jon was named after Jonathan in the bible, and at our wedding, Frank talked about how Jon lived up to his name sake regarding his actions as a friend. It said a lot that two of his closet friends flew over for the wedding (in addition to all his family, and extended family.) Frank sharing this has stuck with me ever since. My boys have a good example in their father to follow.

2010 is here already, the past year flew by so fast. Jon and Owen went to a friends house last night to celebrate the coming New Year. I stayed home with Nathan due to having strep for the second time in two weeks. I am hoping that 2010 brings changes in a few ways. Some personal some not so personal. Highlights I am looking forward to so far:

January - celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary

February - sharing in Patrick's dedication

March - having my parents out to visit

May - running my 1st half marathon - yes you read right!!! lol

July - vacationing in Maine with family and friends

October - vacationing in Florida with family

I am sure there will be plenty of other stuff to pencil in. Clare will be visiting at some point in 2010 and Dawn is talking about it too. I think Thanksgiving is the only holiday Evo has not been out, so trying to talk her into that one.

Well it is midnight and I am ready for bed. I need my rest to get well. Back to the grindstone on Monday. Need to make the most of the weekend that is left.

    Long time....

It's been a long time since I updated on xanga, things have changed, relationships changed and my kids a growing up fast.
September we went to Liverpool for a 2 week vacation. This is the first flight for Nathan and the first flight that Owen can actually remember and get excited for. The weeks leading up to our trip all I heard was, "Look Mama, Nana's plane!" I had told Owen we were going on a plane to see Nana and Granddad and it became Nana's plane. Owen was so excited to finally get on the plane and considering he was cooped up for 8 hrs in the one seat, he did an awesome job. Nathan was so small it wasn't too big a deal for him. We did have the bulkhead thanks to a friend and so asked for the skycrib. Nate was so long and chubby that he looked like he was squished into it and he could not move or turn over. Needless to say, he spent most of his time sleeping on me - which was more than fine. The trip over there was nice. We had some good days out, it did rain most of the time, but that is English weather for you. It was nice to be able to catch up with some friends although there were some we were unable to. Nathan was baptized, and it was nice to be able to share that with family and friends. Soon enough the trip was over and it was time to return to the U.S. Again this is upsetting for family saying bye mainly to the boys, they change so much and so quickly each time they see them.

October saw Halloween which we spent with Joel and Jen. The boys and Noah had a great time trick or treating, Nathan as "SuperNate" and Owen as "Buzz Lightyear." I know something else happened this month, but can't remember what it was.
November was Thanksgiving, which we spent in Columbus with family. Thanksgiving itself we went out to Greenwood Lake, and spent time enjoying company, watching the kids play and catching up with friends. It was a nice weekend all in all.
December is a busy month for us really. It begins with my birthday which was uneventful but enjoyable - I do look forward to my birthday. 12 days later was Owen's birthday - he turned 3. He is such a big boy and his language is coming along in leaps and bounds. Another 7 days later and it was Nathan's 1st birthday. I don't know where this past year as gone to. He is walking and has been doing so for about a month now. We call him T-Rex as he walks like one. He holds his arms like T-Rex small arms when he walks. We still have the "wooden legs" but it isn't as noticeable as it was originally. Nathan is realizing that he can bend his knees. Nathan has 6 teeth at the moment and we go for his 12 month check up next week. We celebrated Christmas yesterday wit Jon's parents. This was the first year that Owen had an inkling of what was going on. Owen left some cookies and milk for Santa, we forgot poor Rudolph, but will take care of him next year. In the morning when Owen woke, he realized the cookies were gone. When I asked who ate them he whispered, "Santa" and looked straight at the door. I told him that Santa has a magic key to get in our front door as we don't have a chimney for him to come down. I was so excited when he saw all the presents by the tree. Nathan was excited as his brother was. We had the opportunity to use the webcam with my parents Christmas Day so they got to watch the boys open the gifts they got for them. Not the same, but at least it is some interaction with them on Christmas Day.
Now we start the countdown to New Year's eve which we are spending at a friends. 2010 here we come. Once I upload Christmas pictures I will edit this and place some recent pics in.

  • Growing up so fast......

I can't believe how fast kids grow.... mine are growing like weeds. Owen is now fully potty trained. We got over the hump of pooping yesterday and he was ever so proud of himself. It was great to see.... not the pooping but the celebrations of him doing it. He is now no longer my baby boy! Such a big boy. His language is exploding and that is awesome.

Nathan is crawling all over the living room and into everything. He is pulling himself up on stuff and trying to walk around it. He moved from the front of his seat to the back side of it the other day. It is amazing that he is only 7 months old. 7 months old and not a single tooth in his mouth, but hey, he is pulling to standing.

Other than that not much going on. Looking forward to being on vacation in 5 weeks. Excited about seeing Owen's reaction when he realizes he will be going on a plane.

Bonnie was in part of last week she was doing a training session at one of the corps up here and so spent some time with the kids. Owen loved having Jeffe, Samuel and Isabelle here too. They had a blast. Only wished the weather could have been better instead of raining. We have a friends daughter watching them this week as our sitter is out on vacation.

Jon and I are doing fine, nothing much to report there.

  • Been a while.......

It has been a while since I blogged. I guess those that need to know what is going on I talk to and so there was no real reason to blog about it too. Things are going good.

Owen - now 2.5 yrs old - still amazes me! He is doing great and although we have some bouts of terrible 2's, I think sometimes a lot of it is that he is Mr. Independent. He wants to do things himself and that is what causes the issues. His language is exploding which is cool. (While away for the 4th, we were eating breakfast and Jon's brother Joel walked in, to which Owen said, "Morning Sunshine!") Where he gets some of it from I have no idea, but he is always a good source for laughs. A few weeks ago he was watching an episode of Thomas the tank engine - his current favorite, and a brick chimney disappeared down an old mine shaft - it collapsed. Owen responded with "Oh F#*K!" I couldn't believe it! Didn't make a big deal about it, didn't want to draw attention to it. He said it the next day at the sitters, and at this point I am becoming horrified as we don't use that word. A day later he is playing with a duck at the sitters which says "AFLAC!" and he repeated it, but never said aflac, but his version. Problem solved, duck gone! He is wearing underpants at the moment so trying to get him out of diapers and he just went down for a nap without a pacifier, so weaning that a little more actively now. He only uses it for naps and sleep now, but trying to get rid of it period.

Nate is 7 months this month - is a beast! He has no teeth as of yet, but shows signs of teething so it is a matter of time. I think that they will all pop at one time. He crawled his first crawls the other day so is on the move. He is doing very well, but is a big boy, both in width and length. He is such a happy baby - wonderful kid. He is now 19lbs 15 oz and 28 inches long!

Jon is fine, same old same old there. Work is fine for him and he is still doing well there so that is good.

Me, same old same old. Nothing really changes there.

Looking forward to going to Liverpool in about 6 weeks. Dreading the packing element of it though as that will be a nightmare. It would be good if Owen was potty trained as that is one less thing to take. Luckily mum and dad have quite a bit of stuff we can use, car seats that friends have loaned them etc or they have bought - otherwise it would be a total nightmare! It will be nice to get away though.
